Much of Sophie's work is based on her childhood memories growing up by the coast on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. She is also inspired by the landscapes enjoyed on family holidays and those closer to home in Leicestershire.
Her work consists of oil painted landscapes combined with emulsion transfers of photographs. The use of snippets of photographic print give her painting a contemporary twist and a kind of realism and the use of the same colours and tones in her paint avoids any jump between the photograph and the painting. There is a fascinating, compelling contrast between the smooth details of the photo and the rich textured surface of the painted canvas.
