Lesley Brooks is a Leicestershire painter whose sunlit still lives explore the spaces between shadow and form bringing to mind the works of Winifred Nicholson. A delicate flower in a vase balances on the edge of a strong shadow. As Lesley says "Composition, planning and judging tonal values are skills that have become more important to me in recent years".
Having studied fine art at Coventry Art School Lesley trained as a teacher and still works in education, while showing in galleries. She is an active member of the Leicester Society of Artists.
Lesley Brooks is a painter's painter: Bold colours, risky compositions and a delicate touch. "An artful risk taken can result in a bigger gain . . . a bold gesture or a sensitive brushstroke can yield an amazing outcome in paint"
